As you guys have probably noticed, I’ve recently been doing a few posts called ‘Seoul Missions’. It will be short guides to Seoul and will include some fun and interestings things to see and do (like Bukchon Hanok Village and Sinchon Puppy Cafe), but (obviously) also all the good cafes and eateries that I discover on my weekend wanderings!

The first area I will be exploring is the Sinsa neighbourhood in Gangnam, which is definitely my (and just about everyone else’s) favourite. Expect to see sports cars racing up and down the street, perfectly manicured, beautiful, rich guys and gals, and the occasional K-pop star in this upscale neighbourhood with its famous main street called Garosu-gil or ‘tree-lined street’. Also, look out for the plenty of plastic surgery tourists with face masks and stitches on their new double-eyelids. I’ve been spending a lot of time in Sinsa lately, trying to tick off all their dessert cafés on my bucket list. Here’s the first of my faves:

Dore Dore café & art Village

Ok, so out of all the places I’ve visited in Sinsadong, Dore Dore takes the cake. And quite literally, at that. This 4-storey café painted in fruity, pastel hues with clean cut tables and a real old-school ‘milkshake diner’ couch make it Instagram heaven. It also calls itself an art village because the walls are decorated with very unique pictures and paintings with the option to buy. The cake displays at the counter at Dore Dore are hypnotizing and lure customers like moths to a flame. Sky-high layered cakes in every color and flavour, make it impossible not to order a slice. Most people go straight for the rainbow varieties, of which there are two kinds: “Precious Cake” (소중해캐이크, ₩9,000/ slice), made of rainbow-colored cake layers separated with fresh cream, and my first choice, “Feel Good! Cake” (기분좋아! 캐이크, ₩9,500/ slice), made from layers of Philadelphia cream cheese. Other options include: red velvet, custard lemon meringue, fruit cream tart, tiramisu, strawberry, carrot, banana, mango pie and even rainbow bagels! The prices are a bit ridiculous and the calorie count is plain gluttony, but as one of my favorite quotes goes: “every now and then you gotta treat yoself!” If you’re looking for a damn good place to have your cake and eat it too, go to Dore Dore.
