Hope you enjoyed last week’s post. Quick update : I still haven’t had the chance to make the Avocado ice-cream (but stay tuned), I tried out my own Halloween make-up look (preferred the bloody vampire Insta-filter on myself though), still failed to watch a horror movie this week as planned (I’m just too much of a scaredy pants), went glamping, visited a health shop AND actually bought stuff from there for once , and discovered some very important new talent. Keep scrolling.
1. GLAMPING @ AMADWALA
Got to glamp (glamour + camp) for the first time ever a few weekends ago for a friend’s bachelorettes at Amadwala Lodge. I just had to mention this hidden gem of a place right in the middle of Honeydew (I know right?!) Read on before you judge though.
This lodge offers a choice of chalets or safari tents, a fire boma, poolside bar, restaurant with damn good breakfast, comfy beds, braai area, a sundowner deck on a hilltop with the most magnificent views – especially at night. The staff are REALLY friendly and even gave us their only kettle to use in our tent for that much needed first cup of java of the day.
It is so quiet and serene I promise you will never guess that this place is a mere 20 minute drive from Randburg! The safari tents are cute, cozy, surprisingly spacious and super clean (also have the best smelling homemade hand wash I’ve ever used!) and none of us girls found even an ant or any other form of bug in our tents (that alone deserves 5 stars from me). I would recommend the lodge to anyone, whatever the occasion may be. Thanks again Amadwala for your excellent service with a smile. I’m already planning my next visit.

2. FOOD CRUSH
Still obsessed with avocado’s this week. Also, all kinds of Asian cuisine. Full posts of some of my fave Asian eateries coming soon to the blog!
3. AGAR AGAR POWDER
I visited the Health Connection Wholefoods store in Clearwater Shopping Centre this week and instead of just going in to stare at all the health potions, powders and pills and walk out with only an extra large green smoothie from their little juice bar like I usually do, I actually went in with a purpose this time. To buy some Agar Agar powder. I’ve never been much of a health nut, but have decided to give it a try after someone kept recommending it to me. Will report back in a few weeks
Agar has been used in Asian cooking for hundreds of years. It is the product of several species of seaweed that grows in rocky tidal pools of Japan, China and Sri Lanka (makes it sound impressive doesn’t it?) It is apparently an excellent source of calcium and iron and is very high in fibre. It contains no sugar, no fat, no carbohydrates and is free from soy, gluten, yeast, starch, wheat and preservatives. It is known to aid digestion and assist weight loss (haha bonus!). It carries toxic waste out of the body and apparently lowers cholesterol levels by absorbing bile in the body. Other benefits of Agar are its ability to reduce inflammation, calm the liver and lungs. It can be added to cooking or used to make jelly desserts or just taken orally with some water before or after meals.
4. DIY HALLOWEEN MAKE-UP
Hope everyone had a fun Halloween! I loved seeing all the costume and make-up ideas going round on social media. I was a scarecrow for Halloween day. This make-up look was super easy, took me 5 minutes to do and was done with only products I already had in my drawer – three different lip colors and a black kohl eye pencil to be exact.
5. THE MOST IMPORTANT REVIEW SHOW EVER
Check out this up & coming movie review show hosted by a group of guys who are pretty funny 🙂
